Sounders Big deal: History! Seattle! History!

By Ethan Seet

On May 4th, in Seattle, Washington, Lumen Field hosted the biggest game in Sounder’s history. Not just that, the biggest win in Major League Soccer history. Seattle Sounders beat Club Universidad Nacional Pumas to become the first MLS club to win the Scotiabank Concacaf in Champions league history.

The sounders have to deal with two injuries, with midfielder Joao Paulo tearing his ACL and centerback Nouhou Tolo came off limping. With the two substitutes Kelyn Rowe and the youngest player to play in SCCL history 16 year-old Obed Vargas come in to help the team. He comes from Anchorage, Alaska.

Pumas was moving the ball fast until the 44th minute when Seattle sounder forward Raul Ruidiaz scored a goal that Pumas goalkeeper Talavera couldn’t save. Then in the second half Ruidiaz makes it 2-0 Seattle. The 3rd goal to seal the title for Seattle occured when Nico Loderio scored in the 88th minute.  The sounders would not have made history on home soil without  68,761 record breaking crowd at Lumen field behind their back. What a night to remember!
